I have the loveliest little garden outside my front door.
I can’t claim credit for much of it… most of this was in place when we bought the house. I did add three small plants, though: chives, tarragon and thyme, which are next to the large lavender plant at the bottom right. The yucca plant (or plants… I really need to divide them) is gorgeous!
The hens-and-chicks decided to go ahead and flower, which is both weird and wonderful at the same time. The stalks look like thick tentacles reaching up out of the ground.
The flower buds, however, open up to reveal these intricate pink blooms.
They remind me of medieval jester caps, or tiny crowns.
There are also some black-eyed Susans in the garden, which makes everything bright and sunny.
And this gorgeous thing is a balloon flower, also known as Chinese bellflower. I caught it just after it rained, and it really is this vivid all the time!
There are still a few little spaces in the garden, so I’m very carefully planning what specimens to add next…
